This year’s Super Bowl was never going to be a “big deal” for me. I don’t like the Giants and I don’t like the Patriots, so the game meant very little. The same is true for the half-time entertainment - nobody I really care about was doing anything of import.

But, at 11:00 AM today, I worked with my friends to create something great. We helped each other, we cooked, we drank, we laughed, we watched other sporting events, we played video games. We spent time together.

Someone mentioned that this Super Bowl wasn’t as well attended as last year’s. But another friend of mine said something I think is very important:

“It’s not the quantity of the people, it’s the quality of the people.”

How very true. My fiancée and I have been blessed with some terrific friends who love us, care for us, and depend on us in so many ways. Today was the best Super Bowl Sunday there ever was, even if the football was the least important part of the whole affair.

It’s great to be surrounded by people that are happy you’re alive.
