This video is charming in every sense of the word, right down to the fact that when the one guy wants to say that all the slats are even, he says they’re “plum bob”. 

My dad’s dad was a sawmill worker and had a lot of these same tools. My dad has them now. Hand drills, axes, disturbing-looking splitting mauls…all dating back to a few years before WWII. They’re cool to look at and are also a gentle reminder to me that what I do takes skill, but certainly isn’t going to harden my hands to the texture of worn sandpaper.
